Michele Suszek is no stranger to competition. Having
grown up in Alpena, Michigan she has been competing
in Sports since grade school. Throughout her years
in school sports, Michele soon realized she had
an affinity for running as well as other athletics.
Her coaches and family nurtured her love for running
and helped Michele find her place as a marathon
runner.
U.N.L.V. opened the doors to Michele to further
pursue her growing passion for running. One day
having collapsed on the track, she suffered a brief
setback as she underwent an emergency surgery for
Parkinson’s syndrome. Doctors as well as school
officials told her to stop running and to hang up
her shoes. Undaunted, Michele returned to the track
a mere 2 weeks later and finished dead last in Conference.
She would return the following year to set 2 school
records, one in the steeplechase and one in the
5k and was the first on her team to qualify for
regionals. She studied Kinesiology when not on the
track and graduated in 2005 with a Bachelors degree.
After college, Michele relocated to Denver, CO to
push her running to a new level. Now training without
the benefit of a coach she runs on instinct and
sheer determination. Since moving to Colorado she
has run 5 marathons and has earned “Elite”
status in relatively short time. Her last marathon
in Phoenix, she earned herself a slot in the 2008
Olympic Trials in Boston Massachusetts with a time
of 2:46:08. With the 2008 and the 2012 Olympics
in her sights, is there much doubt Michele will
fall short of her goals? Read more informaion about
her at her
official website.
